These last few months have been a whirlwind but we are super excited to reveal to you that we have opened our restaurant and shop at the weekend. We had a very quiet trial weekend to work through any teething issues and fine tune our systems.
We’re happy that all went well and are now ready to begin the new chapter at Castletown Mill.

The GRain Store REstaurant
Our new restaurant has opened in the fabulous space that once was a double level grain store at the old mill. We removed the middle level to open the room right up to the rafters creating an airy space with a rustic feel. The walls have all been repointed and left bare, yet a cosy atmosphere has been created with the contrast of comfortable seating, lots of greenery and rather glamorous chandeliers!
Callum, our Head Chef, has been keenly waiting to get into his new kitchen and, after sign off from our Environmental Health, he was finally allowed in to prepare and fine tune his menu. We were the lucky taste testers along with our new restaurant team, headed up by Bruce.
You can book a table online and also view our menus – have a look at our Grain Store Restaurant page.

Shopping at Stannergill
The area which we have dedicated to retail was actually once a manure store . Benjamin J. Calder, the mills tenant miller in 1913, was described as a ‘Miller, Manure and Cake Dealer’ on a receipt held in archives.
Whilst we are not selling cattle cake in our shop we do have a lovely range of biscuits and treats to discover. There is also no manure for sale and we can promise that the retail space has had a very thorough clean!
When you come to Stannergill Distillery we want you to discover more than whisky and we have a lovely range of gifting items, merchandise, candles, soaps and decorative flowers for you to discover.
Before we reached this point there was one final hurdle to overcome – we had to gain our Acceptance of Completion. This was achieved in October and then it was all stations go to set up the kitchen, restaurant and retail space. This was a huge milestone in the journey so far!

behind the other doors
Work continues on the distilling process side of things and we are still aiming for December completion. Meantime as our engineering team work hard to finish, we have turned our attention to the next project – where to store the liquid for maturation….watch this space…

Sponsor a Roof Tile
There are still tiles which could have your name on them! If you would like to be a lasting part of this buildings history then please consider sponsoring a roof tile. When the distillery is open to the public you will be able to come along to identify your tile, as we will provide you with it’s positioning on the roof.
