A legacy built on enterprise
Part of our ongoing Saga Series—a collection honouring the history of Castletown Mill—this 10 Year Old blend celebrates William Mackenzie, a local butcher and farmer whose enterprise reshaped Castletown Mill. Purchasing the site in 1933 after it ceased operating as a grain mill, William went on to build a slaughterhouse at the west end of the original 1818 wing. The label features a studio portrait of William, pictured holding a cigar alongside an unknown gentleman.
Much like the bold character of the man himself, this whisky is a rich and robust peated blend, layered with sweet, indulgent notes from ex-Madeira cask-finished malt whisky.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Rich peat smoke intertwined with sweet, dark fruits and a hint of toasted oak.
Palate
Robust and earthy, balanced by indulgent notes of caramelised sugar and warm Madeira spice.
Finish
Long and deeply satisfying, leaving a lingering, sweet smokiness.
Crafted with Purpose
Sustainability
- Draff left over from the mashing process will be given to local farms to use as cattle feed.
- Pot ale and spent lees left over from the distillation process will be used as fertiliser on the barley grown in the fields surrounding Castletown Mill.
- We will power Castletown Mill with renewable energy.
- We will encourage visitors to use public transport.
