A fabulous entrance into the distillery

The door which will lead you into this beautiful building has been ordered and is going to look stunning.  This grand entrance will serve as the impressive threshold to the home of Stannergill Whisky.  Nestled within a beautiful archway that once led to the grain store, this door will soon welcome you into our distillery.

In the coming months, this majestic door will open to reveal our visitor welcome area and retail experience. Each space is being meticulously designed to honour the building's rich history while providing an extraordinary welcome. We look forward to inviting you into this enchanting journey through the heart of Stannergill Whisky.

The Stills

It has been an exciting few months as we have received regular updates and pictures of our two stills being made. The Wash Still and the Spirit Still are being meticulously crafted at  Speyside Copper Works and the handcrafted copper stills will be the heart and soul of our distillery.  The stills are carefully crafted using centuries old techniques, but also using the latest 3d design technology to ensure they are exactly to requirements.

The interaction between copper and the spirit during distillation is crucial, imparting unique characteristics and enhancing the quality of our whisky.  We look forward to the day!

The Big Window

On the seaward-facing front of the 1818 wing, we have created a large window opening. Behind this window, our two beautiful stills will be proudly displayed. Imagine visiting our distillery and stepping into the StillHouse – our two gleaming stills will greet you with the magnificent backdrop of the beach.

We can’t wait for the day that they arrive and they are scheduled to come towards the end of April.  It will be an exciting day and we will certainly make it an occasion.

The Sack Hoists

The sack hoists, or grain elevators, are an original part of the building which we are restoring. These were once used, as their name suggests, to hoist sacks of grain up into the stores.

The frames have been replaced on the sack hoists and they are now just awaiting their glazing and cladding.  The scaffold was going up this morning to begin this work and once the sack hoists are completed, they will look amazing on the building.

Whilst the sacks hoists will look like they once did from the outside of the building, from the inside you will be able to stand within in them and admire the view.  They will also provide a fabulous source of natural light.

Further progress
Lots of other activity has been happening on site.  An extension on the back of the building has been completed, this will house our milling and mashing equipment.  Some of this equipment has already arrived and is now in situ. It has also created space for our kitchen and facilities for visitors.  Electrical work has commenced and many cables are appearing.

The fabulous team at Norbloc Construction have begun to create the courtyard, beginning with a beautiful Caithness dry stone wall.

The interiors is the next stage and a lot of thought and consideration is being inputted to create a fabulous inside which allows the story of the building to be told, whilst still giving our visitors a wonderful welcome and experience.

We have a wonderful space for retail and will be looking to create this soon.

Sponsor a Roof Tile
There are still tiles which could have your name on them! If you would like to be a lasting part of this buildings history then please consider sponsoring a roof tile. When the distillery is open to the public you will be able to come along to identify your tile, as we will provide you with it’s positioning on the roof.
